What is a Business Improvement Area (BIA)?
Ottawa has vibrant, thriving and unique business improvement areas (BIAs) that make our city stand out. Some of the capital’s most lively commercial districts are the BIAs you already know.
BIAs are formed by local businesses who cooperate to promote their neighbourhood, undertake special projects—such as seasonal decorations and streetscape improvement—to make a more competitive main street or business district.
While streetscape improvements are appreciated—and noticed—BIAs also work together on marketing initiatives, business recruitment and to host special events that showcase the neighbourhood, business landscape and provide the public with unique, one-of-a-kind festivals highlighting the unique attributes of an area and increase customer visits.
BIAs work with the city to organize, finance and support urban initiatives that make Ottawa great.
